             RENAULT
POWER FASTEST IN FIRST PRACTICE SESSION - 30/5/03
            A resurgent
Peter Hackett in the Aircon Dallara Renault was quickest in the
first session and only a tenth of a second off last year's track
              record held by Michael Caruso.
In cold but sunny conditions, F3 took to the track at 11:35am. Several
drivers had never driven this track before, including Kenny Habul
              and Peter Rees.
Hackett was quickest in a time o 0:55.5710. Another remarkable effort
from Glen Coombs' team with their new car in only its second meeting.
The top six were covered by just 0.6 seconds with Barton Mawer second
quickest and Christian Jones third. Championship leader, James Cressey
was fourth quickest in a time of 0:55.8847. Michael caruso, who
is currently in second place in the Championship, was only seventh
fastest but experienced a gearbox problem, losing third gear about
              halfway through the session.
Piccola Scuderia's Alan Gurr put in a solid performance to be fifth
in a time of 0:56.1159. Best of the Team BRM pilots was New Zealander,
Matt Fitzgerald who recorded a very respectable 0:56.2242. Rookie
Karl Reindler was only marginally slower than his team mate in 0:56.3602.
In the Yokohama Trophy class for cars built in 1996 and earlier,
Chris Coombs was quickest with a 0:59.6045, followed by Bill Maddocks
              and David Borg.
